Pay is what each person earns per hour (for a subcontractor, what they charge). It is used to work out what each job really cost. Log either the payment as an expense or the hours here, not both, or the cost counts twice.

Insurance certificates
Ask every subcontractor for a certificate of insurance before they start, and keep your own handy for clients. Take a photo or upload a PDF; I read the insurer and expiry date and warn you 30 days before it runs out.
What would payroll cost?
A planning estimate for putting regular workers on payroll with workers' comp, unemployment and disability coverage. Not a quote; ask an insurance agent and an accountant.
